my hypothesis that italy is a strange mix of high and low cultures continues. did you know that venice floods up to 40 times a year??? we are talking about a foot of water over the entire city, filling the narrow streets, and moving into the high class stores! you wear giant boots to slosh through it, or else, just get wet....OR...you can hire someone to carry you on their backs through the water!!! what??

the water bus ride to venice is always so seriously crammed tight, that you feel like you are experiencing someone elses personal space for 90 percent of it. Americans would never put up with it. its like a human sardine can floating along a rough ocean.
